Huipin Liu 2010 Piano Recital

Huipin Liu, a young and outstanding pianist, went to Austria to learn the piano when she was seventeen. She studied in both University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and University Mozarteum Salzburg at the same time. Winning professors’ unanimous praise, she obtained the master degree of piano performance with excellent grades in 2007. She was instructed by Leonid Brumberg (the best pupils and assistant of the remarkable Russian musician Heinrich Neuhaus) and George Kern (a favorite pupil of legendary Russian pianist Josef and Rosina Lhevinne) during the past few years. Since 1998, Huipin has performed in numerous personal concerts in Austria, German and Taiwan.

The theme of the concert is “love.“ Composers conveyed their yearning for love and wonderful music through notes. The music compositions express different flavor of love, such as sadness, romance and passion.

Prokofiev’s piano suite“Romeo and Juliet”(Sergei Prokofiev: Romeo and Juliet, Op. 75) interprets the most touching love story written by William Shakespeare. It mainly describes the leading roles’ affection, hatred and fighting against the tough environment. Romeo and Juliet have their own theme music, and there are also melodies representing their romantic love occuring time to time.

Among Prokofiev’s piano pieces, the nine piano sonatas are the most important. These sonatas feature tenacious metal-like sound, discordant sound, unexpected harmonies, strong rhythms and enchanting melodies. These features are representative of his novel and unique style in the twentieth-century piano music.

Piano Sonata No. 11 in F sharp minor is the most acclaimed sonata in Schumann’s three piano sonate. This sonata is very long and hard to be performed, but once audience listen to it carefully, they can realize Schumman’s most private feelings and his love for the piano. In the letter to his dearest Clara, Schumman wrote that this sonata was “a single heart crying for you,"which indicated his truest yearning for Clara.

Pianist Huipin Liu hopes to lead the audience to experience the composers’ emotions and stories behind their masterpieces once again. She does also want to let the audience feel her passion for music through her energetic performance.
